IN COLLABORATION WITH ARTIST / PHOTOGRAPHER ALEX STONE
Animal Mineral Vegetable is an ongoing collaboration between artist / photographer Alex Stone and different artists including myself. Shooting predominantly on analog film and in black & white her approach is momentary & fleeting, recording extended moments in time and also embracing the processes of film photography, developing and the art of making images with light.
I have always been inspired by photography, in particular the work of Man Ray. The wax carving below titled Deco Ring is inspired by a black & white photograph by the artist of a woman resting her head on a table and holding next to her an African mask. I love the way black & white photography bring out the sculptural qualities of the subject transforming the contrast of light and dark into images with depth and dimension.
