Inspired by the sculptural stone heads of artist Emily Young, the Angel Ring explores the quiet presence and timeless beauty of the human face. Young’s serene, androgynous figures are characterised by their powerful carved features and the interplay between raw, natural surfaces and refined sculptural forms. Exhibited throughout London and internationally, her work celebrates the expressive qualities of stone and the enduring connection between humanity and the natural world.

Part of my signature Face Ring collection, the Angel Ring explores the enduring influence of art and sculpture on my practice, extending the language of the human face through the use of bronze in art and jewellery making and its remarkable ability to capture colour. The green patina transforms the sculptural form, evoking the surface of ancient artefacts and modern patinated bronze sculptures by Barbara Hepworth.

Translating this sculptural language into wearable art, the Angel Ring features a contemplative face that evokes a sense of stillness, strength and quiet introspection. Cast in bronze and finished with a rich green patina, the face is transformed, creating a striking dialogue between the human form and the natural ageing of materials.

Hand-carved in wax and cast in bronze using the ancient lost-wax casting process. The green patina enhances the contours and carved details of the face, lending the piece an organic, timeworn quality. Subtle variations in colour and surface contribute to its individual character, giving each ring the presence of a small sculptural relic.

Balancing the expressive features of the face with the raw, evolving character of patinated bronze, the Angel Ring explores the beauty of imperfection, transformation and the passage of time.
