Using the Japanese wax sculpting technique misturo hikime, the Triad ring was conceived through the spontaneous process of folding, forming, and stretching this Japanese wax, and combines the distinctive organic qualities of mitsuro hikime with playful, minimalist forms.

Lost wax cast into sterling silver, the Triad ring is remenisent of the abstract costumes designed by Oskar Schlemmer for his avant-garde ‘Triadisches Ballett’. He named the ballet ‘Triadic’, referring to the three acts, three dancers, and three colours in each act. Based on cylindrical, spherical, conic, and spiral shapes, his costumes merged visual art, sculpture, performance, and body adornment.

Fashioned from one continuous strip of mitsuro hikime, the Triad ring curls around the finger, spiralling up into a point. The movement and gestures of my hands performed whilst sculpting the ring are captured in the flowing coils of hikime lines. In the same way the coils of the triadic costumes weave around the dancer’s body, the Triad ring wraps around the finger.

The elements have been lost wax cast into sterling and no mould has been made making this piece a valuable, unique, one of a kind piece. A similar design concept may be created in future however it will not be the identical, as each piece will be made from scratch and no mould will be made.
