The Torso Bangle explores my ongoing fascination with the human figure and its interpretation in art. Through my drawings and observations of life models and figurative sculpture, I am drawn to the body through still-life and physical form, where proportion, contour and surface texture convey physical presence through the interplay of light and shade. The Torso bangle simplifies, objectifies and interprets the body as fragmented sculptures, distilling the figure into a form that further explores the narrative as it interacts with the body.

Alternating front and back views of the torso encircle the wrist, transforming the fragmented figures into an abstract composition. Drawing attention to the subtle differences in form, contour and proportion, the interplay between the individual forms and the circular structure of the bangle creates a dialogue between the body and the wearer, bringing figurative sculpture into the realm of personal adornment.

Hand-sculpted in wax before being cast in sterling silver using the ancient lost-wax casting process, the bangle preserves the contours and three-dimensional qualities of the original carving. A brushed satin finish lends the silver a soft, understated lustre, enhancing the sculptural detail and the interplay of light across its surface.

Designed to encircle the wrist, the Torso Bangle explores the enduring relationship between the human figure, sculpture and the body as a site for artistic expression, translating my study of figurative form into a distinctive piece of wearable art.
