Mitsuro Hikime Private Class
Mitsuro Hikime Private Class
Discover the art of Mitsuro Hikime in an private, one-to-one session from the comfort of my jewellery studio, a space where I develop my own work and explore the possibilities of wax as a material for jewellery and sculpture.
Rooted in a traditional Japanese wax-sculpting technique, mitsuro hikime offers a beautiful balance between control and spontaneity. Through the gentle stretching, pulling and manipulation of warm wax, flowing forms and delicate, linear textures emerge, each with its own character.
This private experience is entirely shaped around you. All levels welcome, whether you’re curious to discover the technique for the first time, or build on experience you already have. Working towards a piece you’ve imagined, we’ll focus on what you want to achieve. I’ll share my knowledge through personal demonstrations and hands-on guidance, allowing you to explore the material more deeply, ask questions freely and develop your own approach.
Your experience
We’ll begin with a conversation about your ideas and what you hope to explore.
I will talk a little about the wax’s properties and ingredients. Demonstrate making your own mitsuro wax from scratch, and then familiarise yourself with the material to create intricate textures, sculptural forms before developing more concrete jewellery designs. Throughout, this session will be tailored to your interests, experience and goals.
Working together at the bench, I’ll demonstrate techniques directly in front of you, sharing the practical knowledge and subtle details that come from years of working with wax. You’ll have the time and space to experiment, refine your skills and discover how small changes in pressure, temperature and movement can transform the material.
You’re welcome to arrive with sketches or a particular piece in mind, or simply bring your curiosity and see where the process takes you. We can explore the possibilities together, developing your ideas at a pace that feels right for you.
A day in my studio
This is an opportunity to step inside my own creative world and learn in the environment where my jewellery and sculptural work takes shape. Away from the pace of a group class, the day offers a more personal connection to the process, with the freedom to explore, experiment and learn through direct conversation and shared making.
Whether your aim is to develop a new skill, deepen your understanding of mitsuro hikime or bring a personal design closer to reality, you’ll leave with new techniques, fresh ideas and a greater confidence in working with this distinctive material.
Preparing for your session
Before the class, we’ll discuss what you’d like to learn so that I can prepare the materials, demonstrations and techniques best suited to your interests. You’re welcome to bring sketches, reference images or existing wax models as a starting point.
Casting is not included in the session, but I’ll guide you through preparing your wax models for casting and recommend suitable casting services where needed.
