Lotus Ring
Lotus Ring
Inspired by a fossilised lotus flower encountered at the V&A Museum, the Lotus Ring evokes the beauty of ancient natural forms, shaped and transformed by the passage of time. Its intricate, coral-like structure surrounds a raw, uncut amethyst crystal, creating the impression of a lost treasure reclaimed from the depths of the sea, encrusted with barnacles and worn by the elements.
Sculpted by hand using Japanese mitsuro sculpting wax, the ring is formed from delicate wax elements created by dripping molten wax onto water. These organic, coral-like formations are then fused together by hand using heated tools to create a richly textured, almost otherworldly surface. Cast in sterling silver using the lost-wax process, this one-of-a-kind piece preserves the spontaneous character and intricate detail of the original wax sculpture.
At its centre, a unique, uncut amethyst crystal introduces a raw, geological presence, its natural facets and irregular form contrasting with the fluid, sculptural silver surrounding it. The juxtaposition of precious metal and unrefined crystal lends the ring the quality of an ancient artefact, suspended between the mineral and organic worlds.
Balancing the delicacy of botanical forms with the rugged textures of marine growth and eroded metal, the Lotus Ring explores the beauty of imperfection, transformation and rediscovery, a fragment of imagined lost treasure, as though unearthed from a forgotten world beneath the waves.
